With the video project Next Generation, Balac punctuates with the corporality of the content, and her material nature is right in the anthropological destination of what means an element in the social tissue, the education itself as a system of values and system of differences. Perceiving the (non)pragmatism of the self-determined, of the individualism as an imminent element of desired and expected policies of emancipation, the authoress boldly imposes the question: Who is building the values, and the differences respectively? In this video-suggestion, the digital materialism itself is based on the suppositions, on the information as directness and orientation, of the verbal act of speech, of the iconic supplements of the aural, of the possible perspectives of readability built through the juxtaposition procedures of audio and visual data. The authoress exposes her precisely formulated comment about the social conditions, the future of their (im)possible (pre)formulations and (un)certain violations with certain abstraction of the vocal, of her speech in 1st person singular, taken over as voice of power, voice of didactical and voice of constructed systems of value. Bringing forward the dispositive of speech in the public domain, the artistic lexis is established as an objective visor of self-consciousness which explicitly disposes the direct ‘sources of the real’ in function of its own point of view, as a reality which time belongs to the future, the new generations, and the new worlds. However, where the quest for these new worlds begins? The European Union as a paradigm of a perfect community of differences… slowly dissolves in front he of the promised future of the new generations. Closed eyes as a metaphor of visibility, of clarity, are not blind in sight, they squint because uncertainty is what awaits them. In that entanglement of exposed (promises) and expectations (unfulfilled), an individual (the next generation) whose freedom of speech immanently belongs to the future, multiplies itself, but also doubles to destruction, before the impossibility to imply itself (as an individual) in the structure of construction systems. Generally, the next generations are not what comes ‘after’ but a phenomenon of the incapacity of the utopian, of determination of boundaries of freedom where the perspective idea is predestined by ‘the great narratives’, defined as an agent of one political perspective or pluralism of ‘the one’ exposed as a vision of the many. So that, ‘the next generations’ exposed like conceptual suggestion of this experimental video project, are not ‘the future ones’, but are the manifestation of the past strategies, an expression of non-fulfillment or un-accomplishment of ‘the great’ author of images, the images of the world, in the way as it is imagined in its controllable structure.
